Maestro Pollini says that at 18 he wanted to have other musical experiences, including that of becoming a pupil of Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli. In fact, the master canceled concerts for a year and a half by taking some lessons from Benedetti Michelangeli going near Bolzano where ABM resided also going to the villa near Arezzo where all the students of ABM were staying (it was more the years that ABM taught instead of subsequently offering concerts in great request from all fans of the ABM master). Maurizio Pollini stayed there for a short time, played there Pollini and ABM gave him some very useful advice, suggesting for example a magnificent fingering for the trills that Maestro Pollini still plays today, he suggested that he begin Beethoven’s Sonata for pf n. 21 op. 53 called Waldstein using the double escapement at half fret and very legatissimo and pianissimo to obtain a sound as palpable as possible (master of the ABM timbre together with Sviatoslav Richter, Rosalyn Tureck, Walter Gieseking).
